CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Wilson Middle School is asking for community support to help ensure its students have access to clean clothing for school, sports, and physical education.
Principal Luanne Moody said about 85% of Wilson students come from low-income households and qualify for free or reduced-price meals. That financial strain often means students don’t always have proper athletic wear or clean clothes for class.
The school does offer laundry facilities, but students still need temporary clothing to wear while their items are being washed. Moody said teachers and staff have often stepped in to purchase extra clothing themselves — a burden she hopes the new project will help ease…
