CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – The Catherine McAuley Center in Cedar Rapids works with hundreds of immigrants and refugees each year, making sure they have the proper documents in place to find jobs in eastern Iowa.
Following the arrest of the former Des Moines Schools Superintendent Ian Roberts by immigration authorities, Governor Kim Reynolds signed an executive order yesterday. It requires all state government departments to verify new hires through two federal employment verification systems: E-Verify and SAVE.
