IOWA CITY, Iowa — Food pantries in Johnson County held a press conference on Friday addressing the halt in SNAP benefits for the month of November. They say they have been bracing for this and are now going to try and find a way to sustain their community’s needs while the shut shutdown is still going on.
“Any cuts to SNAP will be hurting the three groups we should be helping, honoring and aiding the most, our workers, our elderly and our children,” Tom Martinez with Coralville Community Food Pantry, said.
These pantries are now working together to find a way to feed the community. John Boller the executive director for the Coralville Community Food Pantry says this is unprecedented and added, “Hunger is a policy choice. This unprecedented lapse in critical nutrition needs is completely preventable.”…
