CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – As eastern Iowans continue to feel the effects of the federal government shutdown and a pause in SNAP benefits, local groups are stepping in to help make sure no one goes hungry.
At Hames Homes in Cedar Rapids, the community food pantry is seeing an increased need for groceries. Community Coordinator Manager Kelly Hitchman said the pantry supports nearly 4,000 people.
“We have a lot of seniors, we have a lot of veterans, we have a lot of single moms and dads — families that are struggling right now especially with the government shutdown,” Hitchman said…
