CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — The Cedar Valley Humane Society is stepping up to help pet owners who may be struggling to afford food for their animals.
The shelter launched its pet food pantry in 2018 as a way to provide a supplemental source of food for dogs and cats in the community. Program Director Hannah McFarlane says the need has only grown in recent years.
“We started the program back in 2018 as a supplemental source of pet food for those who maybe just simple and hard times and needed a little extra help getting their pets fed,” McFarlane said. “So far this year we’ve helped about 3,000 pets alone, giving away tens of thousands of pounds of pet food over the last few years.”…
