Cedar Rapids woman loses $2,500 in online job scam

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — A Cedar Rapids woman fell victim to an online scam, losing nearly $2,500 in just four days. Kim Simmons was initially contacted about a work-from-home opportunity, which began with watching videos for payment.

However, the situation escalated when she was encouraged to invest in cryptocurrency. “I don’t know if I’m more mad because they took that money from me and I was just trying to make some extra Christmas money for my grandkids, or if I just feel stupid that I got scammed,” Simmons said.

The scam became apparent when Simmons was asked to make larger purchases, and was told she made errors requiring costly “repair orders.”…
