Cedar Rapids school district faces $10 million budget deficit

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – The Cedar Rapids Community School District is grappling with a $10 million budget deficit driven primarily by declining enrollment, officials said during a school board meeting.

The district’s general fund recorded a $9.5 million deficit in fiscal year 2025, according to Karla Hogan, the district’s deputy chief financial officer. The district lost $5 million in a single year due to 622 fewer students enrolled this academic year compared to last.
