CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – A wintry weather pattern is here, and that comes with the first real threat of snow for the big travel weekend.
Strong winds are the biggest weather headline of the day with 30-50 mph winds throughout the afternoon.
Otherwise, a lot of cloud cover will be around for the morning hours with a few flurries and snow showers mixed in, especially in northern parts of the TV9 viewing area.
Skies will clear throughout the afternoon and evening giving us dry but cold weather for the rest of the week. Thanksgiving day will be chilly and blustery, with highs in the low to mid 30s once again. A bit of sun will be present, but it’ll still be a nice day to spend indoors.
Then, things begin to turn more active. Friday starts out with a good amount of cloud cover, but dry weather will be there for the daytime hours. It’s after dark, and especially later in the evening, that travel conditions will begin to deteriorate due to an increase in wintry precipitation.
A bit of a lull is possible during the morning on Saturday, but the latest set of data we have and the forecast models we use to help make our forecasts increasingly suggest more snow to roll through the state for the rest of Saturday.
