Winter Weather Alert: Travel Across I-80, I-74 Expected to Be Treacherous Saturday Night

Cedar Rapids, IA – A major winter storm is set to impact eastern Iowa, northwest Illinois, and northeast Missouri this weekend, bringing heavy snow, gusty winds, and dangerous travel conditions from Friday night through early Sunday, according to the National Weather Service Quad Cities.

Snow is expected to begin between 6–9 PM Friday in eastern Iowa and continue eastward overnight, with the heaviest snowfall likely Saturday afternoon through evening. The storm will gradually taper off by early Sunday morning.

Forecasters project total snowfall accumulations of 8–14 inches, with the highest amounts near Cedar Rapids, Dubuque, Maquoketa, Iowa City, and Moline. Snowfall rates may reach up to 1.5 inches per hour, leading to snow-covered roads and poor visibility
