CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — City crews are preparing for a major winter storm expected to bring 10 to 12 inches of snow between Saturday morning and Sunday morning. Officials say plow operations will focus first on priority routes and assisting emergency responders.
A Snow Emergency is in effect from 6 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, through Sunday, Nov. 30.
City leaders warn of hazardous travel, especially in open areas where blowing snow may reduce visibility. Crews will not plow streets they cannot access, and vehicles parked along Emergency Snow Routes may be ticketed or towed.
Parking Rules
During the Snow Emergency:
- Vehicles must not park on Emergency Snow Routes, which are marked with signs and often located near hospitals, schools, and transit corridors.
- On non-emergency streets, residents must follow odd-even parking rules from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.:
- Park on the odd side of the street on odd-numbered days.
- Park on the even side of the street on even-numbered days.
- These rules do not apply where they conflict with permanent parking restrictions.
- Residents are reminded not to push or blow snow into the street.
Snow Removal Operations
After the storm ends, it may take up to 12 hours for crews to reach every public street. Heavy or slow-moving storms may require multiple passes before crews move into residential neighborhoods…
