The City of Cedar Rapids is managing a snow emergency. Forecasts predict 10 to 12 inches of snowfall. City crews are focusing on keeping key routes open and supporting emergency response. The snow, along with strong winds and low temperatures, may create difficult travel conditions. Blowing and drifting snow could reduce visibility, especially in open areas.
Residents are asked to keep vehicles off emergency snow routes. These routes are marked with signs and are often near hospitals, schools, and main roads. Keeping them clear helps plows and emergency vehicles move safely. Crews will not plow streets blocked by parked cars. Plowing in residential areas will start after the snowfall ends, with a goal to clear all 1,400 lane miles within 12 hours after the storm.
The snow emergency is in effect from 6 a.m. Saturday, November 28, to noon Sunday, November 30, according to Municipal Code Chapter 61. Residents should not move snow from driveways or parking lots into the street, as this slows snow removal.
