CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – An active and wintry weather pattern will continue this week, with a bit of a break today.

Primarily cloudy skies ahead for our Tuesday with a bit of clearing for some. Temperatures remain chilly with highs only in the mid to lower 20s.

Our next weather disturbance brings a slight chance of snow showers again overnight tonight into Wednesday.

This week’s bigger story is a shot of much colder air set to pour into the region. Blustery northwesterly winds will kick up behind a cold front on Wednesday, sending temperatures downward after about midday. They’ll fall from a high in the mid to upper 20s to below zero by Thursday morning. When you factor in the ongoing winds, wind chills on Thursday morning could be in the -10 to -25 range. That’s some serious cold!

Mostly sunny skies underneath high pressure on Thursday will help, somewhat, by pushing highs into the upper single digits or low 10s above zero. Wind chills will lag behind with even light winds, so expect a bitterly cold day.

Another storm system could bring a swath of snow to portions of the upper Midwest this weekend, with Saturday looking like the more likely time period here. Some accumulation could occur with this system, though its intensity looks significantly less than last weekend…
