Investigators asking Cedar Rapids Slovak community to identify a Colorado man’s remains

BAILEY, Colorado — The Colorado Bureau of Investigation is looking for the public’s help in identifying a man whose remains were found last year. The remains of the person, referred to as “John Doe”, were found on May 28, 2024, in a remote camping area outside of Bailey on United States Forest Service land. Forensic experts say he may have been there since 2022 or 2023. A forensic facial reconstruction expert created a sculpture of the man.

He is estimated to be between the ages of 30 and 60-years-old, about 5’11” and 6’8” and likely to be of Eastern European decent. Genetic genealogy suggests that John Doe has Slovakian DNA. The reason investigators are reaching out to locals in Cedar Rapids, is because of the big population of Czech/Slovak communities in the area.
