BAILEY, Col. — The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI), in partnership with the Park County Sheriff’s Office and the Park County Coroner’s Office, is appealing for public assistance to identify a man whose remains were discovered last year in a remote camping area outside Bailey, Colo. The remains, reported on May 28, 2024, were found on United States Forest Service land and are believed to have been there since 2022 or 2023. A forensic facial reconstruction expert has created a sculpture to aid in identification.
The unidentified man, referred to as “John Doe,” is described as male, likely of Eastern European ancestry, with an estimated height between 5’11” and 6’8”, and middle-aged, between 30 and 60 years old. Recent genetic genealogy has revealed a significant breakthrough, indicating Slovakian DNA, suggesting potential relatives in Pueblo, Colo., Omaha, Neb. and Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
