Marion City Update: Food Drive Success, Christmas in the Park, and New Ice Loop Opening

In his weekly update on December 5, 2025, Marion City Manager Ryan Waller shared several community initiatives and city updates. The Marion Fire Department recently completed a community food drive. The drive collected about 1,500 pounds of food for the Hawkeye Area Community Action Program (HACAP). Marion residents and volunteers contributed to this effort. Fire Department Management Analyst Jamie Doyle was recognized for organizing the drive.

The city is holding ‘Christmas in the Park’ today in Uptown Marion. To support the event, 7th Avenue will be closed from 2 to 9 p.m. Drivers should use caution on nearby streets due to increased pedestrian activity. A section of 8th Avenue east of 10th Street remains closed for water main installation.

A new winter attraction, the Ice Loop, opens this evening at City Square Park’s Central Plaza at 1001 7th Avenue. The Ice Loop will be open through February, depending on weather. Staffed hours are Thursday and Friday evenings, with extended hours on weekends. Admission and skate rentals are available during these times.
