CEDAR RAPIDS — A 28-year-old Cedar Rapids woman was arrested on Nov. 21 after her infant was found unresponsive and later died from asphyxia in February. Jaley D. Bush was charged with child endangerment resulting in death, according to a criminal complaint filed by the Lee County Attorney’s Office.
Police responded to a call on Jan. 27, 2025, at 746 Hickory Terrace after reports of an unresponsive baby. Officers performed life-saving measures and noted signs that Bush was under the influence of drugs. Bush told investigators she had taken Klonopin and did not know whose pills they were.

The complaint states Bush had been visiting a friend and fell asleep on his bed with the baby. She said she woke to find the infant headfirst in a trash can next to the bed. Blood tests later revealed methamphetamine and benzodiazepines in her system…
