CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — The Cedar Rapids Community School District is preparing for significant budget cuts next year, with board members estimating a shortfall of $10 million to $12 million. District officials say the projected gap is tied to salary increases, declining enrollment and a carryover deficit.
At Monday’s Board of Education meeting, leaders said no specific cuts have been identified, but a variety of reduction and consolidation options are under review.
“The Cedar Rapids Community School District is at a pivotal moment,” board president Jennifer Neumann said. “Our need to adjust budgets for the future from 10 million to 12 million dollars annually is the focus of the board of education.” She said administrators have been directed to examine a wide range of possibilities, and added that “no decisions have been made yet.”…
