The City of Cedar Rapids utilizes a wide array of tools in its efforts to provide a safe, secure living environment for residents and businesses.
Cedar Rapids Police employ automated license plate readers (ALPR) as an investigative tool to assist in the location of vehicles associated with reports of crime, missing persons and criminal activity. Since ALPR use began in the City over a decade ago, CRPD has used this technology to locate criminals, stolen cars, and generate information that’s helped investigators bring justice to victims. The recent addition of 70 stationary ALPR units has bolstered our capabilities and resulted in a safer community.
