Residents of Johnson County, as well as those living in Kalona and Riverside city limits, can dispose of sharps and syringes at the Hazardous Material Collection Facility. The facility is located at the Iowa City Landfill, 3900 Hebl Ave. SW. This service is free for residents. It is available Thursday and Friday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Saturday from 7 a.m. to noon.
Sharps must be placed in a rigid plastic or metal container with a secure lid. Acceptable containers include medical sharps containers or clearly labeled laundry detergent bottles.
