CEDAR COUNTY, Iowa — Iowa transportation officials are warning drivers to avoid travel on I-80 east of Des Moines and across parts of central and eastern Iowa as whiteout conditions and numerous crashes create hazardous roadways.
The Iowa Department of Transportation said visibility is rapidly deteriorating from Des Moines to the Illinois border and near Cedar Rapids, making travel difficult and in some areas unsafe for emergency responders to reach crash scenes. A tow ban is in place across some areas as well.
