DMPD advises against non-essential travel due to crashes, road conditions

DES MOINES, Iowa — The Des Moines Police Department is advising against non-essential travel due to several crashes and road conditions in Des Moines.

The snow stopped around noon Saturday but road conditions remained covered and snowy into the afternoon. The Iowa DOT declared a road closure along I-80 near Iowa City around noon, with much of the rest of the state seeing covered roads.

The DMPD says between the hours of 11 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Saturday officers responded to 40 crashes across the metro. Authorities say that as of 5:15 p.m. DMPD officers were investigating 15 crashes, with more awaiting response…
