Former UI employee sentenced after pleading guilty for diverting university funds

Following a sentencing in the Johnson County Courthouse Monday morning, former University of Iowa Physics and Astronomy Machine Shop Director Brian Busch will not serve any jail time if he successfully completes probation for diverting nearly $1 million in university funds to his own bank accounts.

The case highlighted a 3.5 year fraud scheme involving the UI Physics and Astronomy Machine Shop, and Busch’s personal machining and parts design business “D3SignTech.”

Johnson County Judge Kevin McKeever opted to give Busch a chance to repay his community for the crimes he committed and not be made to continue paying more than what he profited…
