CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – More above-freezing temperatures mean our snow on the ground continues to shrink.
Things have stayed mild throughout the evening, but a weak cold front is on the way. After this front moves through, we may see some partial clearing overnight, and temperatures will turn a bit cooler. That means readings in the 30s for evening, slipping into the low to mid 20s overnight.
That’s still warmer than last night, and that higher starting point will give us a shot to get back into the 30s yet again. This should allow further melting of the snow we have on the ground, though it will be a fairly slow process. Skies will be a mix of sun and clouds during the day, but clouds will build toward the evening.
The cloudier skies herald the arrival of another storm system, and this one will have some moisture to work with. Thus, precipitation is back in the picture, and it should mostly fall in the form of rain. This chance kicks back in on Wednesday night, lasting into the daytime morning hours of Thursday as a cold front moves through.
Temperatures will be in the 30s to low 40s while this rain falls, making for a chilly and wet time. There is the chance that some snowflakes could try to mix in at times, both around daybreak and right as the cold front moves through during mid-to-late morning. It’s not looking likely that the snow, if it takes place at all, would stick much. A dusting of slushy accumulation would be possible if a changeover was able to happen…
