Over the past several years, I have noticed a few more songs that I never associated with Christmas being associated with Christmas. These pieces are outside the canon of what I consider Christmas music. But I am glad that these songs are not forgotten.
The first would be any song entitled “Dona Nobis Pacem.” There are several to choose from, but I will limit myself to the one performed as a round. It was taught to many of us in an older generation when we were in school. Probably the only round taught more often was about rowing a boat gently down a stream. Literally, the title translates to “Send Us Peace.” It is my wish for you.
I recently programmed this song into a short presentation I made to a women’s group. The speaker was addressing finding peace in the unplanned incidents of our lives. I sought to honor her words of wisdom by using this song. The order of my pieces was changed to sing this just before she spoke. It settled us in to really listen to her inspirational words…
