CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Starting Jan. 1, Iowa drivers could be pulled over for something many admit they do every day: holding their phone while behind the wheel.
The state’s hands-free driving law goes into full enforcement this week, allowing officers to stop drivers solely for holding an electronic device while driving. Cedar Rapids police say the law is about more than writing tickets — it’s about preventing deadly distractions.
“So cell phones, tablets — you used to see people talking on their phones, holding it up to their ear, or even using the speaker phone mode and having the phone out in front of them, talking,” said Sgt. Graham Campshure with the Cedar Rapids Police Department. “That’s what this law addresses.”…
