I-PLEDGE program aims to boost local tobacco compliance, with penalties for illegal sales

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Cedar Rapids police will conduct retailer compliance checks to ensure tobacco, alternative nicotine and vapor products are sold only to eligible adults.

The Cedar Rapids Police Department and the Iowa Department of Revenue are continuing joint enforcement and education efforts through the I-PLEDGE program, which is designed to prevent the sale of restricted products to minors.

I-PLEDGE is a statewide partnership that educates retailers and enforces Iowa laws governing tobacco, alternative nicotine and vapor products. Since the program began in 2000, Iowa’s tobacco compliance rate has increased to more than 90%.
