Cedar Rapids Crash Sends Vehicle Airborne Near 1st Ave & 10th St SE

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA — Emergency crews rushed to the scene of a dramatic single-vehicle crash near 1st Avenue and 10th Street SE around noon today after a car veered off the roadway, crossed opposing lanes of traffic, and became airborne before crashing into parked vehicles.

According to authorities, the vehicle was traveling eastbound on 1st Avenue when it left the roadway, struck protective stone barriers, and launched into the air. The car ultimately came to rest between two parked vehicles, causing extensive damage to all three.

Both the driver and a passenger were trapped inside the vehicle and had to be extricated by the Cedar Rapids Fire Department. The occupants were medically evaluated at the scene, with one individual requiring additional medical attention.

Officers with the Cedar Rapids Police Department are investigating the cause of the crash. Authorities say charges are pending as the investigation continues…
