Intermediate schools ‘work well’ for Linn-Mar as CRCSD considers opportunities to address deficit

MARION, Iowa (KCRG) – As the Cedar Rapids Community School District (CRCSD) faces declining enrollment and a $11 million budget deficit for next school year, district leaders are considering options to possibly consolidate schools and reconfigure grade levels.

One possibility is creating “intermediate schools” for 5th and 6th grade students – splitting the middle grades to house 7th and 8th grades in middle schools.

In the neighboring Linn-Mar Community School District, students began the 2020-21 school year at the new Boulder Peak and Hazel Point Intermediate Schools for the opposite reason. The Linn-Mar district was growing and its buildings were full…
