Rezoning Agreement for Duane Arnold Plant highlights facility’s role in community

PALO, Iowa (KCRG) – To reopen the Duane Arnold Energy Center, Linn County Supervisors are agreeing to move forward with a Rezoning Agreement. Language in the agreement shapes the role the plant would have in the community.

NextEra Energy has been pushing to reopen the plant and commit most of its power to a nearby Google data center. The Duane Arnold Energy Center is a nuclear power plant, it was decommissioned in 2020 in response to economic concerns but closed early because of damage the facility sustained in the 2020 Derecho.
