Mid-Prairie Special Olympics Bowling Team Competes at State

Several Mid-Prairie athletes competed at the the Special Olympics state bowling competition in late November and are preparing for spring’s track and field events.

The team traveled to Cedar Rapids on a Saturday to compete. Athletes that participated include Lois Hochstedler, Jonathon Miller, Tate Jeffries, Anthony McGaffey, Pierce Miller, Graham Gunderson, and Dalton Hesseltine.

Mid-Prairie High School Principal Chuck Banks is a part of the support staff that helps with the program. He says the school’s paraprofessionals work side-by-side with the students to give them the support they need, helping the kids gain confidence and the skills they need to be successful. Banks says the support staff deserves credit for helping the program thrive, “It’s just really neat to see that relationship grow and develop. You know, when you’re participating in something that’s outside the classroom, a non-academic thing, it just allows opportunities for a different type of relationship to develop. And it’s good for the kids, and quite frankly, the adults.”…
