CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Cedar Rapids schools are grappling with an $11 million budget deficit that has prompted initial plans to close six or more schools and make district-wide cuts, as Governor Kim Reynolds defended her education policies during her Condition of the State address.
Reynolds countered critics who say state policies are hurting Iowa’s public schools, telling districts they should be proactive instead of complaining about students leaving for private schools or public charter schools.
