CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — UnityPoint Health – St. Luke’s Hospital has become the first hospital in Cedar Rapids to use cryobiopsy technology to improve lung cancer diagnoses.
The hospital recently deployed the ERBECRYO 2 system, an advanced tool that allows physicians to collect larger, higher-quality tissue samples from hard-to-reach areas of the lung. The technology is used alongside St. Luke’s existing ION robotic bronchoscopy system.
Pulmonologists use the robotic system to navigate deep into the lung’s narrow and complex airways. Once a suspicious lesion is reached, the ERBECRYO 2 probe rapidly freezes the tissue, allowing it to be removed in a single, well-preserved sample…
