California man caught in Cedar Rapids drug operation faces at least 10 years in federal prison

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — A jury in Cedar Rapids convicted Joshua James Cannady, 51 of Yucca Valley, California, after a three-day trial for his role in transporting methamphetamine and fentanyl from California to Iowa.

Cannady was found guilty of conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance and seven counts of distribution of a controlled substance. The jury reached its verdict after approximately 90 minutes of deliberation.

Evidence presented during the trial revealed that Cannady collaborated with others to ship methamphetamine and fentanyl to Cedar Rapids and Mount Vernon between May 2023 and November 2024. Authorities confiscated over 500 grams of methamphetamine and 1,700 fentanyl pills from seven packages sent from California. Cannady’s fingerprints were found on three of these packages…
