A Waterloo woman who purchased a handgun for her underage boyfriend has been sentenced to federal prison.
Arryel Skye Waters, 24, of Waterloo, was sentenced Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Cedar Rapids to 12 months and one day in prison after pleading guilty to one count of making a false statement during the purchase of a firearm.
According to evidence presented at plea and sentencing hearings, Waters attempted to buy a gun from a Cedar Falls business in July 2023 but was denied the sale after employees questioned whether she was the actual buyer. She later purchased a Glock handgun from another Cedar Falls store, indicating on required paperwork that the gun was for herself.
