Cedar Rapids residents report mail arriving days late despite USPS Informed Delivery alerts

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Residents on the northeast side of Cedar Rapids say mail tracked through the United States Postal Service’s Informed Delivery system is arriving several days later than expected, in some cases creating financial hardship.

What is Informed Delivery?

Informed Delivery is a USPS service that enables customers to track incoming mail and view what is expected to arrive in their mailbox each day. Residents say the gap between when the service shows mail is expected and when it actually arrives has grown in recent weeks.

Residents describe the delays

Jennifer Hodge-Riggle, a seamstress who works from home in northeast Cedar Rapids, said she relies on mailed checks as her primary source of income — a situation made more urgent. At the same time, her husband recovers from surgery on short-term disability.

“It tells me it’s coming, but then it doesn’t show up,” Hodge-Riggle said.

She said she received a notification that a check would arrive by Saturday. It did not arrive until Tuesday. On another day, her Informed Delivery account showed no mail expected — yet mail from a previous Tuesday was in her mailbox…
