Cedar Rapids mail delivery delays prompt complaints, USPS data reviewed

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – According to the USPS website, first-class mail within Cedar Rapids reaches its destination in just under three days, approximately 84 to 85 percent of the time. Data specific to the northeast side of Cedar Rapids — where most complaints have been reported — falls within the margin of error for the city’s average delivery time, with an average rate only slightly higher. The USPS states that the current rate is better than the national average and higher than the same period a year ago for the region. The agency does not publish specific data from earlier years for comparison.

Residents say delays are unacceptable.

Todd Cohenour, a Navy veteran who lives on the northeast side of Cedar Rapids, uses the USPS “Informed Delivery” service, which notifies users of mail expected to arrive each day. He said items flagged in those notifications frequently do not arrive on schedule…
