CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Heather Murr put $30 in her gas tank Tuesday and got 9.681 gallons — not even half a tank. “It is very hard, and it’s only going to get harder. So I hope America knows how to use coupons,” she said.
A spike not seen in years
Murr, of La Porte City, makes frequent trips to Cedar Rapids to visit a pain clinic following a car crash that has left her out of work and without income for months. She said she knew prices would rise following the conflict in Iran — just not this fast.
“That’s a pretty dramatic price increase. I knew everything was going to go up. I just thought that it might take within a couple of weeks,” Murr said.
The average price for a gallon of regular gas in Iowa rose 17 cents between Monday and Tuesday. Nationally, the average jumped 11 cents in 24 hours — an increase Brian Ortner with AAA said hasn’t been seen in years…
