CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – The Cedar Rapids Community School District board is set to vote Monday night on staff reductions for the next school year as part of an effort to close an $11 million deficit.
The district is looking to cut 33 teaching positions district-wide. Washington High School would lose seven teaching positions, the most of any school in the proposal. Jefferson High School is slated to lose five positions, and Kennedy High School fewer than one.
Community raises concerns at work session
At the board’s last work session, more than 20 people spoke about what the cuts could mean. Speakers raised concerns about how the reductions could impact AP and performing arts classes.
