Press Release: Linn County Property Tax

Property owners in Linn County and across Iowa will soon receive a mailing from their county Auditor with information about proposed property tax rates for the budget year beginning July 1, 2026. This mailing—required by state law and sent by March 15—is not a property tax bill, but an informational notice that outlines proposed tax rates and lists upcoming public hearings for your local school district, county, and city.

The statement will include details about current and proposed tax rates, how property taxes are distributed, and when and where public hearings will take place so residents can provide input. The back page of the mailer will also include two required hypothetical examples showing how proposed taxes could change for sample residential and commercial properties assuming a 10% increase in value.
