LINN COUNTY, Iowa (IOWA’S NEWS NOW) — The Oregon man arrested last May in a December 1983 cold case in Linn County is now waiving his right to a speedy trial – delaying proceedings into next year.
Michael Schappert, 65, had been scheduled for a first-degree murder trial in April in connection with the death of Ronald Novak. Court filings from March 6 now show the trial is rescheduled for January 19, 2027 and is expected to last 8-10 days…
