IOWA CITY, Iowa — Leaders in Iowa City are moving forward with plans for a new affordable housing development on North Summit Street aimed at addressing the city’s growing housing shortage.
The project would be built on about 1.8 acres of land on North Summit Street, where city officials hope to develop multi-family affordable housing units. The site includes two properties the city previously purchased for about $750,000, with enough space for more than 30 units.
According to city officials, the land was purchased using federal COVID-19 relief funds from the American Rescue Plan Act. The city also received a federal housing grant and has hired a development management firm to help guide the project through the process…
