CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Linn Mar High School junior Kennedy Vancura said a school cell phone ban has cut her in-class screen time, but once she gets home, she said she spends about five to six hours a day on social media.
“You can see like your friends hanging out and say you’re not invited,” Vancura said. “It just gives off FOMO and stuff like that.”
Her experience reflects concerns outlined in a new report from the American Academy of Pediatrics, which calls for a systemic effort to address screen time and social media use among children. The report notes many digital platforms are “designed to boost engagement and profit – and not to support children’s health and development.”…
