Prosecution files closing arguments in Matthew Schleier murder trial

LINN COUNTY, Iowa (IOWA’S NEWS NOW) — The prosecution in the Matthew Schleier first-degree murder trial has filed closing arguments in the case – laying out a weeks-long timeline of the Marion father planning to kill his five-year-old son.

A 31-page filing from Monday morning lays out the state’s case against Schleier, who admits to killing his son in October 2024 because he believed death would be better than the child living with severe food allergies. Schleier is using an insanity defense in the case.
