North Liberty Fire to relocate during $18M fire station renovation

North Liberty firefighters are expected to temporarily move operations about a mile south as the city prepares for a major rebuild of its fire station.

The North Liberty Fire Department plans to relocate to the city’s public works campus while the $18 million fire station at 25 W. Cherry St. is reconstructed. The project is still in the design phase, and some reconstruction details have not yet been finalized.

City leaders had previously considered a phased construction plan that would have allowed the station to keep operating during the project. Instead, relocating the department is expected to save about six months of construction time and allow the project to add additional drive-through bays for the department’s trucks…
