CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (IOWA’S NEWS NOW) — The first Dairy Queen in Linn County is aiming for a late spring reopening under a new name, but hoping to hold onto the heart of a Cedar Rapids summer staple of nearly 80 years.
Dottie’s is looking to start up business again on 1st Avenue near to the iconic Starlite Room in late May.
Cassie Kehe, a 2008 Cedar Rapids Washington High School graduate, says it’s always been a dream to buy the store she worked at from 2005-2015. Instead of sticking with the Dairy Queen franchising, she’s changing the name to honor one of the original owners. Though “Dottie” was never a nickname that Dorothy Herrington went by, it’s the hope that it reflects her legacy and the spirit of the shop…
