CDC warns travelers of dengue fever outbreaks in over a dozen countries

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – The CDC has issued a travel alert for 16 countries over Dengue Fever, a mosquito-borne illness.

The advisory issued Monday is a Level 1 alert, asking travelers to be aware of higher-than-expected cases in and/or returning from the following countries:

  • Afghanistan
  • Bangladesh
  • Bolivia
  • Colombia
  • Cook Islands
  • Cuba
  • Guyana
  • Maldives
  • Mali
  • Mauritania
  • New Caledonia
  • Pakistan
  • Samoa
  • Sudan
  • Timor-Leste
  • Vietnam

Additional countries may also pose a risk but do not have publicly available data.

So far this year, there have been about 500 cases of dengue fever in the United States…
