Des Moines, Iowa β A powerful shift in weather is set to impact Iowa in the coming days as a heat dome drives temperatures into the upper 70s and low 80s, while repeated rounds of storms bring a growing risk of heavy rain and localized flooding through early April.
According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, the state is expected to experience both above-normal temperatures and increased precipitation from April 3 through April 9.
Heat dome brings early spring surge in temperatures
A developing heat dome will push warmer air into the region, sending temperatures 10 to 15 degrees above seasonal averages.
Cities including Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, and Davenport are expected to see:
