Iowa’s family farms are vanishing as challenges push the next generation away

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Will Swenka always knew he wanted to farm.

He grew up on a Johnson County farm, and over the years of working the land and tending to livestock, he said it wasn’t even a question he would go into farming.

“It’s just been my way of life since I was born,” Swenka said. “Even when I was a little kid, I always said I wanted to farm.”…
