Community rallies at Cedar Rapids ICE office, praying and placing flowers at new fence

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Clergy, immigrant families and community members gathered early Tuesday outside the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement office in Cedar Rapids to accompany individuals attending required immigration check-ins, marking the first such action since a fence was installed around the facility.

The gathering began at 7:30 a.m. at 3351 Square D Drive SW, where participants prayed, stood along the newly erected barrier and held signs reading “Choose Love, Not ICE.” Some placed flowers at the fence in honor of 46 people who have died in ICE custody since 2025.
