After almost five months of darkness in the two-floor unit inside Iowa City’s Chauncey Hotel, news has arrived on its future. The lights will turn on again as Barker’s Bowling plans to open in late spring or early summer 2026.
Joe Hill, the owner of Burger Haul, located inside the Iowa City Pedestrian Mall, is working on bringing a new bowling alley and entertainment venue to the old SpareMe Bowl and Arcade space.
Hill said he decided to buy the unit not only as a business venture but also because he felt like there was a void in the Iowa City entertainment scene after SpareMe, the old bowling alley and entertainment space inside the Chauncey, closed in November 2025…
